January 2016
The Cavallino Classic 2016 celebrated its 25th gathering of Ferrari owners, enthusiasts, and spectacular cars. One of the highlights of this years event was a special display consisting of Best of Show winners from the prior Classics. We were very pleased that the current car owners of four of our previous winners brought their cars to sunny Florida: 1948 Ferrari 166 Spyder Corsa (Scuderia Cup, 2014); 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 Alloy Berlinetta (Gran Turismo Cup, 2012); 1950 Ferrari 166 MM/ 195 S Berlinetta Le Mans (Scuderia Cup, 2008); 1949 Ferrari 166 MM Barchetta (Scuderia Cup, 2007 & 1999). Then on Classic Sports Sunday at Mar-a-Lago, the lovely 1950 Berlinetta Le Mans was awarded First in Class.
At the request of the organizers, Paul Russell did a presentation during the Thursday Symposium. There has been a great deal of interest in the ‘barn-find’ 1961 250 GT SWB California Spyder, one of the cars from the Baillion Collection. This was a wonderful opportunity to have a discussion about the points to consider when deciding whether a car is a preservation project, or a seemingly original car with a great patina that, upon closer inspection and further research, deserves to be returned to its original condition. Our thanks to George Carrick and Keith Bluemel for their contributions to the discussion and to Keith for sharing photos from the seminar.
