Our drivetrain specialist, Bob Lapane, had forty years of experience before joining our workshop in 2009. Over this past decade with us, he has taken on everything out of the ordinary having to do with transmissions, differentials and unique engine challenges.
Recently, Bob spent two days on the campus of McPherson College offering a hands-on group training session to current students. The focus was on rebuilding the differential of a 1953 Mercedes-Benz 300S, a car we assisted the school in acquiring as a future Pebble Beach Concours project. He also shared his vast store of knowledge with an overview on gears, bearings, and lubricants during two classroom sessions.
This is our second opportunity to pass forward some of our staff’s specialized knowledge. Upholsterer Richard Barnes, named one of the “20 Top Restorers” in the October 2017 issue of Sports Car Market, gave an invaluable 2-day upholstery workshop at the school last fall, covering both pre-war and post-war materials, construction and restoration procedures. The McPherson College Automotive Restoration Bachelor’s degree program covers the travel expenses, and we supply the paid staff. A rewarding experience for all involved.
