Austin-Healey’s most complete expression of the British sports car arrived in 1964. It contained all that they had learned beginning with the 100 BN1 in 1953 and culminating in the comparatively luxurious 3000 BJ8 Mark III Phase II on offer here. But don’t confuse “luxurious” with “soft.” Even the most refined Austin-Healey is still an exciting and elemental motoring experience.

The 3000 MKIII lost none of its predecessors classic good looks, but added power, refinement and perhaps most importantly, livability. Power increased to 150bhp, larger front discs improved braking, and rear suspension changes improved handling and ground clearance. Upgrades to the interior included a functional, weather-tight top, curved, laminated windscreen, roll-up side windows, and a full width burl walnut dash. Taken together these, and a host of other improvements, transformed the 3000 into the most desirable Healy ever produced.

This stunning 1967 example was meticulously restored by Austin-Healey expert Tom Rocke of Riverside, California to 100-point concours standards. Mechanically and cosmetically all the work has been done. The deep red exterior complements the black and red trimmed interior and figured walnut dash to create what was at the time, and remains today, an elegant and special cabin for both driver and companion. The rear seats make carrying an occasional rear passenger possible, but the 2+2 designation is best not taken too literally. More importantly, though, the rear seat back folds perfectly flat to create a very useful luggage shelf. The additional space makes extended touring almost an obligation.

This 3000 MKIII is an exquisite example of one of the best and most character-filled British sports cars ever made. And best of all, it’s ready for any concours, rally, or vintage event in the world.
