After eight years, 1971 wrapped up the era of the W113. Starting with the 230 and transitioning to the 250 and finally the 280, the W113 made a lasting impression on Mercedes-Benz enthusiast around the world. Still highly regarded as an excellent GT car, the Mercedes-Benz 280SL was the full package of performance, comfort and class. Even by todays standards, the 280SL is a car known for its abilities as a reliable driver for the classic car enthusiast who uses their car.
With only a small handful of 280SLs built in the last three months of 1971, this particular car is one of the last to roll off the assembly line. Its peppy, 2.8 liter in-line six-cylinder, engine providing 170 horsepower, mated to a four-speed manual transmission, allow for a very enjoyable driving experience. This car has been under the care of Paul Russell and Company since 1996. The current owner brought it to us for yearly service and maintenance and in 2007 decided to have a full engine rebuild and a transmission conversion completed. The four-speed automatic was replaced by the highly regarded 4 speed manual for a more engaging driving experience. A new cognac interior has been added, as well as cosmetic care to the metallic blue paint to keep the car at a very reputable standard. After 25 years the owner has decided to part ways with one of the best maintained 280SLs in the country.
