This year’s 71st edition of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance was held in the soft light that veteran attendees refer to as “concours gloom”, a cool, damp, murk not uncommon to the peninsula. No matter, the over 200 strong field representing the finest automobiles in the world provided plenty of sparkle.

We helped light up the field with two very special Ferrari restorations for two of our valued clients. Making post-restoration debuts were William and Cheryl Swanson’s 1958 250 GT Berlinetta Tour de France, and Harry Yeaggy’s 1962 250 GTO Series II. On this day it was the GTO that won 3rd place in the Ferrari Competition Class, while the TdF captured the “Enzo Ferrari Trophy” special award.

Awards are an honor to receive, but just as gratifying for us was that both owners insisted on taking part in Thursday’s sun-filled Tour d’Elegance. The traditional run up to Big Sur and back is easy to dismiss if you’ve never taken part, but it is a serious test. It proves that these often days-old restorations are fully-capable road cars, as well as stunning kinetic sculptures celebrated on the 18th green. For Harry Yeaggy, the tour was just a warm-up for next month’s GTO Reunion and an expected 900+ miles of spirited driving. For Colorado Grand regular Bill Swanson, he has a race-ready TdF to consider when choosing a car for that 1000-mile tour of the Rockies.
